Hey all,

I'm Jia Wei, and I'm helping spread the word about a petition to criminalize marital rape in Singapore.

Until 2007, forced intercourse between spouses was deemed legal by Singaporean law. And the latest amendments made to this piece of legislation offer little further protection for women. Within Singapore’s current legal framework, marital rape can only be deemed illegal if the wife has obtained a decree of legal separation or some form of injunction restraining the husband from engaging in sexual intercourse with her. This means that the vast majority of women who have not taken the legal protections necessary, or are simply abused into submission, are then left utterly vulnerable to the evils of marital rape.

These laws are mutating the virtues of marriage, distorting the sanctity of true love and commitment between man and woman into a smokescreen for violence and cruelty. They are an excuse for men to treat women as their sexual property, forcing women into what is often a prolonged relationship of sexual brutality and psychological trauma. This is not justice – it is immunity for the devil.

The writers of the petition are currently canvassing signatures for a petition to criminalize marital rape in all circumstances, which will be submitted to the Prime Minister You can sign this petition at www.notorape.com
